Enhancement of the magnetic anisotropy of Co clusters by Au capping
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the magnetic properties of Co nanoparticles, prepared by sputtering, with diameters ranging from 1 to 3.5 nm. The effective anisotropy, which determines the activation energy for the magnetization reversal, increases with decreasing particle’s size, showing the dominant role played by surface atoms. We find that the superparamagnetic blocking temperature and the coercive field are significatively enhanced when the clusters are capped by a thin Au layer. This enhancement is probably caused by the bonding or hybridization of Co and Au atoms at the interface between the two metals. It provides thus a method to modify the magnetic anisotropy, which can be of interest for the applications of magnetic nanoparticles. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2172217

Magnetic properties of Au/Co/Ni80Fe20/Co/Au layered structures
The influence of an ultrathin cobalt layer at permalloy/gold interfaces in Au/Ni80Fe20/Au sandwiches and spin-valve (Ni80Fe20/Au/Co/Au)N multilayers on their magnetic and magnetotransport properties is investigated. We show that an effective magnetic anisotropy of Co/Ni80Fe20/Co hybrid structures sandwiched between Au layers can be easily varied by the thickness adjustment of Co and Ni80Fe20 la...
متن کاملThe Stage Dependent Effect of Capping Agent Introduction in the Synthesis of Magnetite Nanoparticles
In this paper, three techniques to obtain capped magnetite nanoparticles were compared. In the formation of magnetite nanoparticles via the co-precipitation route, capping agents were introduced pre-, simultaneously with, or post-addition of the precipitating agent, ammonia. The amino acids L-glutamine and L-glutamic acid were used as the capping agents. Characterization via TEM, pXRD, EDX, and...

Introduction: Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a nanotechnology-assisted cancer hyperthermia approach in which the interaction between laser light and plasmonic nanoparticles generates a localized heating for thermoablation of the tumor. Recent efforts in the area of PTT follow two important aims: (i) exploitation of targeting strategies for preferential accumulation of plasmonic ...
